The best place to begin your search is by contacting your local kennel club or the parent club for your breed, in this case www.chihuahuaclubofamerica.com. They can help direct you towards a good local breeder in your area You can find local clubs at the www.AKC.org website. Here in California you might also check with the chihuahua clubs. The Northern California chihuahua club website is www.chiclubnorcal.com and the Southern California chihuahua club website is www.southerncaliforniachihuahuaclub.com these local breed clubs can help you with information on chihuahuas, showing, and a list of local, reputable breeders in your area.
The internet is also a great source of information, but beware, you will likely find a huge multitude of puppies for sale. Do your research on the party that you may do business with. Ask for references. Ask questions. Are they active in local clubs or organizations ?Do they have a track record with the breed ? Are their dogs registered ? With AKC ? Do they offer any health guarantee ? Why do they breed ? To better the breed ? To show ? How long have they been involved with the breed ?With so many folks offering chihuahuas for sale, many don't even resemble the breed, make sure you know your breeder. Whether your chihuahua puppy is to be for show or pet, a chihuahua should look like a chihuahua.Any reputable breeder will be more than willing to take the time to answer any questions you may have,and they will want to know about you too, in return. After all, they will want to know more about where this precious puppy is going.

Will it cost me more to buy from a reputable show chihuahua breeder ?
From the internet sellers I've seen and the prices that they are currently asking, NO, the folks selling for profit
are generally higher in price than the true reputable breeders whose main concern is the welfare of the dogs.
It costs the same amount of time and money to raise a chihuahua puppy to show or as a pet. They both need the same vaccinations, feed and social training so the pricing will often be the same or similar.

Toyvilles Connect the Dot com, aka Dottie finished her championship at the 2009 Spring Nationals in Arizona, going Winners Bitch for a 5 point major, lovingly handled by her owner, Pat Vermillion.
Toyvilles the Girls Gone Wild, aka Floozey won Best of Variety her second time in the ring over specials at Gridley, California this June !
